My name is Markel Arias Lastra, I am 22 years old, and I come from Spain. I study Audiovisual Communication at Mondragon University, where I have developed a strong interest in storytelling, media production and innovation.
During my academic journey, I’ve always been drawn to the intersection between creativity and technology. Where through video, writing, or experimental formats, I aim to create content that challenges conventional narratives and engages audiences in new ways. This mindset naturally aligned with the goals of the Media Innovation minor at Windesheim, where I had the opportunity to explore and experiment with different themes:

As a creator, I am particularly interested in how innovation can serve as a tool to make journalism more dynamic, interactive, and emotionally engaging. This portfolio reflects that approach by analyzing the work I produced during the minor and connecting it to current debates and trends within the journalistic field.
Harcup (2021) explains that journalism is about producing timely and truthful information for the public, often through storytelling, investigation, and explanation. Its main goal is to inform people about what is happening in the world. Journalists use facts and reliable sources to explain events, problems, or trends. In this minor we are going to explore different ways to communicate and share emotions, asnwering journalistic questions.
According to Tidd and Bessant (2021), innovation is the process of turning ideas into solutions that add value, either by creating something new or improving what already exists. It can involve technology, ways of working, or the way people think about a subject. In media and journalism, innovation can be about using new tools to tell stories, reaching people through different platforms, or changing how journalism works in society. In this minor they push us to dont get stuck in what we know and try different and new ways to tell stories.
